Local, National & International Citizenship

Our students work with individuals and groups outside the school to develop their knowledge, skills base and citizenship.
This occurs through both the academic programme (particularly through health and physical education, and the arts) and in our Pastoral Care programme (where Year 10 students undertake a Community Action Project and Year 11 students complete Community Service).

One of our annual events is our student tour of Canberra, the nation’s capital. Year 11 students have the opportunity to see Federal Parliament at work, and to visit the High Court, the War Memorial, the National Museum of Art, and the National Science and Technology Centre.
This tour complements our young people’s growing understanding of our national identity, and their responsibilities in a democratic society.

Our school is outward looking. We have an educational partnership with Shandong Province in north-eastern China and this relationship is influencing our development as a school with an international focus.
We have annual visits from Jiaonan No. 1 Middle School (China) and from Koishikawa High School (Japan).
Every two years our students have the opportunity to tour eastern China (particularly Beijing, Qingdao and Shanghai).
In 2006, a Salisbury East High School music ensemble toured China, and played alongside traditional Chinese musicians
